Robert Waters Elementary School

Robert Waters Elementary School, where I met two of my favorite teachers Ms. Molinari & Ms. Kilimet.

Robert Waters Elementary School was my academic home from Pre-K - 6th grade (I attended Holy Rosary Academy for grades 7 & 8). Here are some of the embarrassing pics of me and classmates throughout the years. You'll notice many of same faces as years went on...

PRE-K

Guess who's the kid left of the man? Yes, I admit it, that's me about 4-5 years old in Pre-K. I can't remember anyone else in this picture.

KINDERGARTEN

In Kindergarten, I nearly got covered up in the picture (back row, left on the very end).

Row 2 - back row: left -right: Yours truly with a Micky Mouse shirt?, Roger, another Carlos, Pedro, ?, Danny, ?, ?, Ms. Batten

Row 1 - left - right: Van, ?, ?, ?, Eva, Karen?, ?, Truk

Did you expect me to remember everyone's name?

GRADE 1

Ah - big man on campus - grade 1. This was the first year we were relocated from the temporary classroom portables to the main building. I believe I was in classroom 101.

Row 3 - back row: left -right: Mark, ?, yours truly with a sour puss, Alfredo, Ana Lisa, Maria, ?

Row 2 - left - right: ?, Marilyn, another Carlos, Pedro, ?, Ana, Chris, Nadine, Ohilda, Peter, Dilys

Row 1 - left - right: Van, ?, Omar, Mario, Ingrid?, Juan, ?

Hey, this time I remembered a lot more names...

GRADE 2

For grade 2, I was in Mrs. Premiano's class (not sure on the spelling). She was in school for most of the year before going on pregnancy leave - but she never made it back to our school. Ms. Gonzalez completed the year as our substitute. I don't have a pic of her, but I think she went onto law school.

Row 3 - back row: left -right: Omar, yours truly with an awful pimpin' shirt, another kid named Carlos, Luis, can you believe a third Carlos in this class?, Mario, Juan, Mrs. Permiano

Row 2 - left - right: Jose, Alfredo, Ohilda, ?, Nadine, Marilyn, Chris, Peter

Row 1 - left - right: Van, ?, Dilys, Maria, Ana Lisa, ?, ?, ?.

I am amazed I just remembered more than half of the names!

GRADE 3

Grade 3 - My teacher was Ms. Irons. I can't find my class picture, so in the meanwhile, laugh at my grade 3 portrait. I'll keep searching for the class pic...

GRADE 4

Row 4 - Back Row, left - right: Hector, ?, Jose, Peter, Eduarto, Nelson, Edgar, Kenneth, Dean, Ms. Molinari

Row 3 - left -right: Roger, Chris, Maria, Josephine, Ana, Rosa, Lillian, Winston, Alfredo

Row 2 - left - right: Ana Lisa, Marilyn, Adina, Eva, Dilys, Melina, Teresa

Row 1 - left - right: Juan, Omar, Stephen, Pablo, yours truly minus a suit jacket...

I am amazed I just remembered everyone' name...ok, except one!

My 4th Grade Teacher - Ms. Molinari

OK - a sad story. While in grade school (Robert Waters School), I had 2 great teachers - Ms. Molinari (4th grade) and Ms. Kilimet (5th grade). It was in Ms. Molinari's class that I recall my first love for history. She assigned map drawings, geography activities and other Social Studies lessons. She always made it fun for all - and we got along very well. I was sad to leave grade 4 because I would miss her (luckily Ms. Kilimet was also fantastic). I regularly visited her while in 5th & 6th grade. Once I left Robert Waters to Holy Rosary Academy for 7th grade, I didn't see much of her but I did think of her often.

Sadly, she was killed, along with 2 friends, when a drunk driver rammed into their car. I remember visiting the wake (my first one) and what a lasting impression it made upon me. The church they attended planted a tree and plaque in their memory - which still stands today.

The church on West Street.

The tree planted in front of the church.

The moral of the story: I think very obvious...

GRADE 5

Another one of my favorite teachers is Ms. Kilimet. Like Ms. Molinari's, this was a great class. I still go back to visit Ms. K. - still teaching after 25 + years. Did you know she made me portray Charlie Brown in our class play? My mom made the zigzag striped shirt...I think we may still have it! We were in classroom # 307.

Row 4 - Back Row, left - right: Alfredo, Jose, Nadine, Lillian, Adina, Henry, Robert or Rayond (this kid was one of 2 cousins I always got confused)

Row 3 - left -right: Melina, Chris, Roger, Maria, Rosa, ?, Josephine, Danny, Ms. Kilimet

Row 2 - left - right: Juan, Stephen, Pablo, Edgar, Ana Lisa, Veronica, Ohilda

Row 1 - left - right: Teresa, Dilys, Dean, yours truly

Not bad, I remembered most of them!

Our class pet was Stuffy the hamster. Guess who used to keep her in his desk during class? Yeah, she chewed threw books, papers, pencils and anything else I had inside. Ms. Kilimet still recalls the day I tucked Stuffy inside my pocket to the auditorium for a school play. At the end of the year, Stuffy came home to live with us.

GRADE 6

The end of an era for me - sixth grade! Upon completing this academic year, my mom transferred me to Holy Rosary Academy Elementary School. I must admit, I was not a good boy in this class. We gave Mrs. MacLinden a hard time...and she was pregnant! When she left in May or so of that year, we had a substitute. Although I can't remember the sub's name, I do remember she smacked one of the boys on a day that he just wouldn't let up. I'll never forget it - she got up, raised her hand, wound it up - and walked briskly over to that kid (I'll keep his name out of it) and just unloaded a smack on his right cheek. I've never seen anything like that! Needless to say, for the last week of school, I was a model student!

Row 4 - Back Row, left - right: Ohilda, Melina, Ruben, Danny, Douglas, Veronica

Row 3 - left -right: Adina, Maria, Josephine, Ana, Nadine, Rosa, Luis, Mrs. MacLinden

Row 2 - left - right: Stephen, yours truly giggling, Alfredo, Teresa, Ana Lisa, Edgar, Juan

Row 1 - left - right: Enrique (Henry), Jose.

Aha! I got everyone's name!

That's all she wrote - check out the Holy Rosary Academy Page for more good laughs...
