Carmen's Crafts

Mom likes to crochet, so here are some examples of her works. These aren't for sale so don't even ask!

OLD GLORY IS COMPLETE!

July 1, 2001

Above: Mom has been working on making me a U.S. flag throw blanket. As you can see from the cover of her book, the piece was coming along very well after only 5 days into it! A family heirloom in the makings - captured on the Internet!

Here's a detail of one of the stars - a first for Mom!

Above: The U.S. Flag is complete! Seen on a queen size bed, the crochet throw is quite large. The stripes were made first, then followed by the the blue field and stars. Finally, the blue field was attached to the stripes to complete the 6 month-long project.

Other Patriotic Crafts:

Above: Mom's self-proclaimed most difficult project - this throw blanket she made about 3 years ago. It began when we stopped at a craft store in New Hampshire after visiting Francis Grover Cleveland. I saw this pattern and immediately bought her the book so she could make it for me. She didn't start until 2 years later! (she was busy with a million other projects). It reads, " UNITED STATES/OF AMERICA/LAND OF THE FREE/HOME OF THE BRAVE". The letters were uncharted territory but Mom figured it out. It is an amazing piece of art and remains among my favorite crafts.

Above: I actually designed this simple pattern and Mom made it for me. It fits a queens size bed.

Above: The first afghan my mom and I designed together when I was a teenager. As you can see, I tend to prefer the patriotic themes!

Above: This patriotic dress was made for my niece for a July 4th event!

The Bunny!

This is a detail of a bunny afghan Mom made for my niece.

The bunny afghan.

The bunny purse.

Other Crafts:

Above: Almost complete, this afghan was made for one of my sisters.

Above: Another project for my sister! My mom rescued this incomplete quilt at a thrift sale and decided to complete it for my sister's guest room. Mom likes to complete unfinished works, even though she's not a quilter (she's a true crochet person and occasionally some knitting).

Above: Doesn't seem like much but after a few hours with me at work, Mom started an afghan which will be raffled at King Manor later this year. In 2000, the Museum raised over $650 from a similar project!

Completed in 2001, this afghan now resides at my sisters house.

My Freddie Krueger sweater (A Nightmare on Elm Street) from high school era Halloween events.

Another project for my niece, a cat pillow case.

Detail of a Mom's label (back of the cat pillow case). Many of Mom's works have this label attached.

The snowflake.

What happens when a new pair of pants get torn up? Add a crochet patch!

Stay tuned for more!
